I am a product designer, ceramics maker and sometimes artist. My ceramics company is called Perch! and it is in Brooklyn. I also design products for bigger companies.
Here you can see my process, studio, new projects and lots of sketches.
This is Red Hook. Home to me and my small business for almost 10 years. After the flood that Hurricane Sandy brought in we were all under water - about 3 feet of water up this street and many blocks inland. This was taken on a day a few weeks ago when I persuaded some friends to help me move some boxes to my new studio. I’m the short one on the right. My new studio is on the second floor, presumably a bit safer when the next storm comes.
Welcome to my new blog! All the images here are of my work in various stages. I mostly make ceramics, but I do like to experiment with different materials. I’m torn at the moment between a wood chair project, which may just get as far as the drawings, and a fabric project. That would be a bit less of a commitment. We will see.
I will be occasionally be posting old sketches from my notebooks. I love my notebooks and am SO happy they were not damaged in flood that destroyed so much of my studio. This series of notebooks goes back to 2004 when I started Perch! You can see over the years some of the balance of creative time vs. business time.
